Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS)

Cook’s Branch Conservancy

During the Spring and Summer 2015, we began operating two MAPS mist-netting stations at Cooks Branch Conservancy, near Montgomery, TX.  During this process, songbirds are netted and banded with a numbered aluminum band, and data such as species, age, sex, weight, breeding status, and various other measurements are collected, after which the birds are released unharmed.  These data are submitted to the Institute for Bird Populations, as part of a nationwide effort to monitor songbird populations and determine causes for declines.  The pictures below were taken during the course of this project.
